This Colt Python is a current production revolver chambered in .357 Magnum, with a 5 inch barrel and a polished blued finish, Colt model PYTHON-BP5WTS, UPC 098289003591. It is used but in like new, excellent condition, with no visible or significant scratches or dings in the blued surfaces and only a minimal cylinder turn ring. It comes with its factory box and paperwork, and an extra Hogue grip.
The Python was introduced by Colt in 1955 and stayed in production for fifty years, the company announcing in October 1999 that it would stop building them and finally ceasing in 2005. Original guns were offered in Royal Blue and nickel with barrels of two and a half, four and six inches, an eight inch following for hunting. Colt released the second generation in January 2020. The originals had acquired a reputation for fragility as shooters ran heavier .357 Magnum loads through them, and the new design answered that with thirty percent more steel above the cylinder in the top strap and a reworked trigger that removed the stacking, the sharp increase in weight at the end of the pull, that characterized the old mechanism. The reintroduced line began in stainless with three, four and a quarter and six inch barrels, and has since grown to some fifteen models across two and a half, three, four and a quarter, five, six and eight inch barrels in Classic, Matte and Blued finishes. The five inch blued gun is chambered for .357 Magnum and will also take .38 Special, carries a six round cylinder and a vent rib barrel rifled one turn in fourteen inches, with a user replaceable front sight, an adjustable rear sight and walnut target grips with gold medallions.
