This SIG P228 was made in Germany in 1995 and is chambered in 9mm. The slide is roll marked with the crest of the Ticino cantonal police in Switzerland, and the pistol carries no import mark. Slide, frame and barrel all match, and the serial appears on the box label as well, so the box belongs to this pistol. It is fitted with tritium night sights and comes with two Sauer marked magazines. Condition is excellent and the bore is mirror bright.
SIG Sauer introduced the P228 in 1988 as a compact version of the P226, and it is chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum only. The standard magazine holds thirteen rounds, though the pistol will also run the P226’s fifteen and twenty round magazines. The barrel is 99mm and the pistol weighs 825 grams. Where the later P229 uses a milled stainless slide, the P228 has a folded carbon steel slide over an aluminum alloy frame, a lighter arrangement that reduces reciprocating mass. The action is mechanically locked and recoil operated, offered in double action / single action or double action only form, with a decocker for lowering the hammer safely. Beyond police service in Europe the P228 was taken into United States service, where it is designated the M11. SIG Sauer built the type in both Germany and the United States.
