Lot Notes

This 1944 CYQ P38 9mm is an original late-war German military service pistol, offered here in excellent mechanical condition with strong collector appeal.

This CYQ-marked P38 pistol is chambered in 9mm Luger, serial number 2389k, manufactured in 1944. This example is all numbers matching and remains in excellent mechanical condition. The bore is mirror bright, and the pistol shows various Waffenamt markings throughout the gun and small parts.

This P38 comes with a leather holster bearing a police unit mark, adding a desirable accessory and collector detail. With matching numbers, a mirror bore, clear wartime inspection markings, and strong mechanical condition, this CYQ-marked P38 is a solid late-war military pistol with appealing originality and presentation.

The Walther P38 was adopted in 1938 as the standard sidearm of the German Wehrmacht, intended to supplement and eventually replace the more costly Luger P08. It introduced a locked-breech design with a double-action/single-action trigger and a loaded-chamber indicator, making it one of the first modern service pistols of its type chambered in 9mm Luger. Wartime P38 production was divided among three principal makers identified by ordnance codes: Walther (ac), Mauser (byf), and Spreewerk (cyq). The “cyq” code on this pistol identifies Spreewerk as its maker, and late-war Spreewerk examples like this one are prized by collectors for their authentic wartime character and rugged mechanical durability.

As a C&R-eligible collectible, this P38 will ship to your FFL and makes an excellent addition to any WWII or Cold War surplus collection. Its matching numbers, mirror bore, original Waffenamt inspection marks, and included police-marked holster combine to make a well-rounded, displayable example for the serious militaria collector.
