Lot Notes

This SIG Sauer P6 is chambered in 9mm and is a West German police pistol marked NW for
the Nordrhein-Westfalen state police, with a slide date code of 4/91 for April 1991. All
numbers match, and it comes with its matching blue factory box. The hammer spur is intact
and unbent, which matters on a P6: the spur carries a notch deliberately designed to bend
or snap off if the pistol is dropped, so that an armourer can see at a glance that it has
been. An intact spur therefore indicates this pistol was not dropped in service. The bore
is mirror bright and the pistol is mechanically excellent. Fitted to it is a CRDC On Duty
II laser in working condition, clamped to the trigger guard with no permanent
modification to the pistol.

The P6 is the West German police configuration of the SIG Sauer P225, itself a compact
derivative of the P220. The designation comes from German police standards, where P
stands for Polizei, and the P225 took the majority of orders from the German states
seeking a new police standard in the mid 1970s. It is a mechanically locked, recoil
operated double action / single action design with a decocking lever and an eight round
magazine, manufactured in Germany from 1978. The police version uses heavier springs than
the commercial P225, including a 24 pound mainspring against the commercial 18 pound
unit, giving a long and deliberately heavy double action pull. Genuine West German police
examples are stamped P6 on the right side of the slide alongside the issuing agency's
initials and a month and year date code. Nordrhein-Westfalen fields the largest of the
sixteen German state police forces, with around 50,000 personnel and headquarters in
Düsseldorf.
