This Luigi Franchi SAS-12 is a pump-action 12 gauge shotgun chambered for 3 inch shells, serial P197xx. The right side of the receiver is marked SAS 12 LUIGI FRANCHI S.p.A. BRESCIA MADE IN ITALY, and the barrel carries the F.I.E. Corp. of Miami import marking along with 12 GA CHAMBERED 3" CHROME-MOLY STEEL. Italian proof marks appear on top of the receiver. It has a fixed full-length polymer stock with a separate pistol grip and a magazine tube running nearly to the muzzle. The dark matte finish is intact with light handling wear, and the polymer furniture is in good condition. The shotgun is offered as it is shown.
The SAS-12 is the pump-action sibling of Franchi's SPAS-12, the Brescia maker's combat shotgun introduced in 1979 that could run either as a gas-operated semi-automatic or as a pump. The SAS-12 drops the gas system and works by pump alone, and unlike the SPAS-12 it is chambered for 3 inch shells. F.I.E. of Miami brought Franchi's combat shotguns into the United States from 1982 until 1989, when a new import interpretation ended that arrangement, and this shotgun carries the F.I.E. marking from that period.
