Lot Notes

Chinese Type 56 SKS carbine chambered in 7.62×39mm, set up in a modern configuration for the shooter. The rifle is fitted with an ATI folding stock, a 20-round Tapco detachable magazine, and a Magpul-style vertical foregrip. It wears an interesting dust-cover-mounted optic on a Chinese "Red Star" SKS scope mount — the Red Star mount having been imported by Keng's Firearms Specialty in the early 1980s. Mechanically the rifle is excellent, with a mirror bore and sharp rifling.

The Type 56 is the Chinese-produced version of the Soviet SKS, chambered in 7.62×39mm and built in huge numbers at Chinese state arsenals. This example has been outfitted as a modern, range-ready carbine: the ATI folding stock and vertical foregrip improve handling and portability, the Tapco 20-round magazine adds capacity over the standard fixed 10-round arrangement, and the period Red Star dust-cover mount carries the optic without permanent modification to the receiver. With excellent mechanics and a bright mirror bore, this customized Type 56 is a fun, practical SKS shooter that also nods to early-1980s SKS optic history through its Keng's-imported Red Star mount.
