This Yugoslavian SKS M59/66 is chambered in 7.62x39mm, carries serial I-2931xx, and comes complete with its bayonet and cleaning rod. The rear dust cover has been replaced with an optic mount, and the muzzle has been drilled to convert it to a muzzle brake. The bore is a mirror bore, and the rifle is mechanically excellent.
The M59 series is Yugoslavia's licensed version of the Soviet Simonov SKS, built by Crvena Zastava in Kragujevac. The standard M59 was produced through the 1960s, and in 1966 the Yugoslav army adopted a revised model, officially the PAP M59/66 and nicknamed the "Papovka" by troops. Its defining change was a permanently attached spigot-type grenade launcher at the muzzle, paired with a ladder-type grenade sight and a manual gas cutoff on the gas block that closes the gas system when the sight is raised. The M59/66 also carried a folding blade bayonet and a rubber recoil buttplate, and an M59/66 A1 variant added luminous night sights on folding bases. Production continued until about 1986 for domestic service and export, and surplus carbines reached civilian markets in the United States in the early 1990s, where they are generally known as the Yugo SKS.
