Introduced in 1949, the Ruger Standard was the first firearm produced by Sturm, Ruger & Co. and the pistol that established the company. Chambered in .22 Long Rifle and operating on a simple blowback action, its distinctive silhouette—often compared to the German Luger—made it an immediate success. Reliable, accurate, and affordable, the Standard remained in production until 1982 and is regarded as a foundational American rimfire pistol.
