The left side of the receiver is marked Mod.98, and the receiver, barrel and rear sight base carry Waffenamt acceptance stamps. The serial number is matching on the receiver, barrel, bolt, bolt shroud, floorplate, trigger guard and stock, while the nose cap and barrel band carries different numbers. The metal carries a high, even blue with light handling marks, the bolt is bright, and the laminated stock is in over all very good/excellent condition and has a reddish finish. It has the hooded front sight, tangent rear sight, bayonet lug, cleaning rod and sling slot, and the barrel carries a U.S. import marking. The Karabiner 98k was adopted by the German army on 21 June 1935 and remained its standard service rifle through the Second World War. Derived from the Standardmodell of 1924 and the Kar 98b, it is a shortened controlled-feed Mauser 98 bolt action chambered for the 7.92x57mm cartridge and fed from a five-round internal magazine charged by stripper clips. Production was spread across many factories, each identified on the receiver ring by a code and a year rather than a name, and Mauser's Oberndorf and Berlin-Borsigwalde plants were among the principal makers.
