How to choose a Holosun red dot
Open or enclosed?
An open sight (407C, 507C, 407COMP, 507COMP, 507K, SCS) has the LED sitting in front of a single lens. It is smaller and lighter, and most pistol optics are built this way. An enclosed sight (EPS, EPS Carry, AEMS) seals the LED inside a box, so rain, dust or lint cannot block the emitter. Enclosed sights are a little bulkier and usually cost a little more.
Which reticle?
Many Holosun models come in two versions: a single dot (the “407” or “-6” models, usually a 6 MOA dot), or a Multi-Reticle System (the “507” models) that lets you switch between a 2 MOA dot, a 32 MOA circle, or both. The 507COMP and 507 Pro Max add 8 and 20 MOA circle options. A big single dot is fast and simple; the circle helps your eye find the dot when the gun comes up. Our 507COMP vs 407COMP vs Pro Max vs Ronin comparison goes through the competition models side by side.
Will it fit my pistol?
Check the footprint, the mounting pattern on the bottom of the sight. Full-size open sights like the 507C and 507COMP use the common RMR footprint. The slim “K” models (407K, 507K) and the EPS Carry use Holosun’s K footprint, made for micro-compact slides like the SIG P365. The SCS line is made in versions that mount directly to one slide cut, such as the Glock MOS, Walther PDP or CZ P10, with no adapter plate. If your slide is cut for a different pattern, Holosun adapter plates and mounts bridge the gap.
Red, green or gold?
Red is the standard. Green is easier for many eyes to pick up in bright daylight, and gold is a third option. Dot perception varies from eye to eye.
Solar Failsafe and Shake Awake
Models with Solar Failsafe have a small solar panel on top that helps power the dot in daylight. Shake Awake turns the sight off when it sits still and back on the moment it moves, which is why many Holosun optics are rated for tens of thousands of hours on one battery.
