This Russian Saiga is chambered in 7.62×39 and was manufactured in 2003, imported by EAA Corp. It has been converted to standard AK configuration and takes standard AK magazines, with black polymer furniture, a 24mm muzzle and a 90 degree gas block. The rifle is new old stock, still in its factory box and wrapped in paper, and comes with its manual, a sling and an original Russian 30 round steel magazine.
The Saiga is a sporting version of the Kalashnikov, marketed for hunting and civilian use and built by Kalashnikov Concern, formerly Izhmash, at Izhevsk in Russia, the same plant where Mikhail Kalashnikov worked. Rifles of the family were sold in a sporting configuration that typically omitted the pistol grip and moved the trigger group rearward of the military position, which is why many have since been returned to a pistol gripped layout. On 16 July 2014 an executive order banned the importation of Russian made firearms including the Saiga line, in response to tensions over Ukraine, and the United States Department of Commerce barred financial transactions with Izhmash and Kalashnikov Concern. A 2003 rifle predates that by eleven years.
