This Swiss K31 is chambered in 7.5x55mm Swiss and has all matching numbers, including a matching numbered troop tag under the buttplate. The bayonet is numbered to the rifle. The rifling is mirror bright and the rifle is mechanically excellent. It comes with its original leather sling and frog.
The K31 was the Swiss service carbine of the mid twentieth century and uses a straight pull bolt action designed by Adolf Furrer, a considerably different and improved design from the earlier Schmidt straight pull actions it followed, so the K31 is properly distinguished from the Schmidt Rubin rifles it is often grouped with. It is chambered for the 7.5x55mm Swiss cartridge, the GP 11, developed in 1911 with non-corrosive construction and a 174 grain full metal jacket boat tail spitzer bullet at a muzzle velocity of about 780 metres per second. The same cartridge served in the earlier Model 1911 and 1896/11 rifles and in Swiss machine guns, and it remained the standard cartridge of Swiss servicemen into the early 1990s, with GP 11 still in use among reservists and sport shooters.
