Lot Notes

Soviet Mosin-Nagant 91/30 rifle chambered in 7.62×54R, built on an early hexagonal receiver manufactured at the Tula Arsenal in 1932. This is a non-refurbished example retaining almost all of its original blue finish — an uncommon and desirable state, as the great majority of surviving Mosins were arsenal-refurbished after the war. It displays characteristics consistent with Finnish-captured 91/30 examples, including tar/black grease-coated internal components applied for rust prevention and Finnish-style numbering on the bolt. However it is not SA marked. The rifle is Finn matching and counterbored, with bright and strong remaining rifling, and is mechanically excellent.

The M91/30 was the standard Soviet infantry rifle, with its earliest production built on hexagonal receivers before the transition to round receivers later in the 1930s. An early 1932-dated hex Tula rifle that is non-refurbished with original bluing is already desirable, and the Finnish-capture characteristics — the protective tar/grease preservation of the internals and the Finnish-style bolt numbering — add a further layer of collector interest. Counterbored to preserve accuracy, with bright strong rifling and excellent mechanics, this is an honest and unusually original early Mosin with a compelling Finnish-service character.
