Harrington & Richardson (H&R) U.S. Rifle M1 Garand chambered in .30-06 Springfield, serial number 47131xx. The H&R receiver falls within the company’s first serial block, placing its production in approximately 1953. This is a mixed-parts example, fitted with a Springfield Armory barrel dated 8-43 (August 1943), an HRA bolt, a Winchester (WRA) trigger guard, a Springfield Armory trigger housing, and a Springfield Armory operating rod. The stock carries a circle-P proof cartouche. The bore is mirror bright with sharp rifling, the rifle retains almost all of its parkerized finish, and it is in excellent mechanical condition.
H&R Arms Company produced M1 Garands under U.S. government contract from 1953 until May 1956, delivering roughly 428,600 rifles. Over decades of service and arsenal overhaul, many Garands acquired mixed components from different makers—Springfield Armory, Winchester, and Harrington & Richardson among them—and such “mixmaster” rifles are common and popular as historically representative shooters.
