Japanese Type 2 Paratrooper rifle manufactured by Nagoya Arsenal, with all visible numbers matching. This example has a frosted bore with small pitting throughout, but the rifling remains strong. The chrysanthemum mum has been ground, though a partial mum remains visible beneath the ground mark.
The Type 2 Paratrooper is one of the most distinctive Japanese WWII rifle variants, designed with a takedown system for airborne use. Based on the Type 99 action and chambered in 7.7 Japanese, the Type 2 separates into two major sections for transport, making it highly collectible among Arisaka and Japanese militaria collectors. Nagoya Arsenal production is especially well associated with the Type 2, and matching visible numbers are an important condition point on these rifles. With its matching visible parts, Nagoya manufacture, strong rifling, and partially visible mum, this is a desirable Japanese paratrooper rifle despite bore frosting and pitting.
