This Finnish M91 is chambered in 7.62x54R and pairs a Tikka barrel marked 1941 with a hex receiver of 1895 manufacture, which carries antique status. The Tsar crest on the receiver is intact. The rifle is Finn matching, the bore is bright with sharp rifling, and mechanical condition is excellent. It comes complete with its cleaning rod and retains its original sling.
Finland acquired more than 190,000 surplus Model 1891 rifles after independence and refitted them to Finnish standards, and through the 1920s and 1930s bought up further M91s on the world market. When production resumed late in the 1930s, large stores of M91 parts required little or no alteration, so new Finnish barrels were fitted to reused Russian receivers and metalwork. Tikka supplied M91 barrels from 1940 to 1943 and VKT from 1940 to 1942, with roughly 45,000 Tikka M91 rifles built between 1940 and 1944 out of about 105,650 Finnish M91 rifles produced during the war years. Finnish refits typically replaced the single-piece Russian stock with a two-piece stock joined by a glued finger splice, substituted sling swivels in escutcheons for the Russian sling slots, and renumbered the rear sight in meters. Receivers of pre-revolutionary manufacture carry Imperial Russian markings, including the double-headed eagle over Cyrillic lettering, and proof marks that were discontinued after the Russian Revolution. These rifles measure about 51.5 inches overall on a 31.5 inch barrel.
