This Swiss K11 is chambered in 7.5x55mm and is all matching, including its bayonet, which
is marked Waffenfabrik Neuhausen. A matching numbered trooper tag is present under the
buttplate. The rifle carries no visible import mark. The bore is mirror bright and the
rifle is mechanically excellent. It comes with a leather bayonet frog dated 1929 and a
brass muzzle cap.
The Schmidt-Rubin family of straight pull rifles served Switzerland from 1889 to 1958,
with 1,366,228 built by Waffenfabrik Bern between 1891 and 1956. The action works by
pulling the bolt straight back to unlock, cock the striker, extract and eject in one
motion, then pushing it forward to chamber a round and lock. The K11 carbine was
introduced on the 1911 pattern for support troops, cavalry and certain other units that
needed something shorter and lighter than the full length rifle, and its reception
influenced the design of its successor, the K31. It is chambered for the 7.5x55mm GP11
cartridge, which runs at higher chamber pressures than the earlier Swiss ammunition, and
feeds from a six round detachable box magazine. Swiss rifles were issued to an individual
soldier, and a waterproofed paper tag recording that soldier’s details was commonly
fitted beneath the buttplate. Waffenfabrik Neuhausen, whose name translates simply as
Weapons Factory Neuhausen, was one of the primary Swiss edged weapon suppliers of the
first half of the twentieth century.
