This M1917 Enfield was made by Remington and is chambered in .30-06 Springfield. The barrel is marked Remington and dated 11-17, and the barrel, receiver, and bolt all carry flaming bomb markings. The rifle also carries Canadian property markings on the receiver and in the stock. The bore is mostly bright with sharp rifling, and the rifle is mechanically excellent. It comes with a GI sling.
The M1917 Enfield was produced from 1917 to 1919 by Winchester, Remington, and Eddystone, with 2,193,429 rifles built in total and 545,541 of those by Remington. The type saw further service in the Second World War: Britain received 615,000 rifles in the summer of 1940 through the British Purchasing Commission and a further 119,000 in 1941, and Canada purchased 80,000 in July 1940, designated Rifle, Enfield .30/06, together with five million rounds of .30-06 ammunition, followed by another 20,000 in 1941. British issued rifles were marked with a red paint stripe around the stock to distinguish them from the earlier .303 pattern 1914 rifle. Canadian property markings on an M1917 therefore date from this later period of service rather than from the rifle’s original manufacture.
