This Finnish M27 is built on a receiver dated 1897 and carries a Tikka barrel dated 1934. It is chambered in 7.62x54R and is Finnish matching. The rifle retains most of its blued finish, the bore is mostly bright with strong rifling, and it is mechanically excellent. The stock shows numerous arsenal repairs with no active structural cracks, marks of a long service life that give the rifle plenty of character. It is complete with its Finnish metal sling loops.
The receiver on this rifle is dated 1897. Under the federal definition at 18 U.S.C. 921(a)(16), a firearm manufactured in or before 1898 is an antique firearm and falls outside the Gun Control Act definition of a firearm, and this rifle is offered on that basis: no FFL transfer is required and it can ship directly to the buyer’s door. Antique status under federal law does not override state or local law. Some states and municipalities regulate pre-1899 arms as firearms regardless of the federal exemption, so buyers are responsible for confirming that a direct shipment is lawful at their delivery address before ordering.
Finland built the M27 on receivers recycled from older M/91 rifles, and reusing Imperial Russian receivers was standard Finnish practice rather than a later alteration. A receiver date of 1897 therefore records the original Russian manufacture, not the year the Finnish rifle was assembled, so the rifle is correct as issued rather than a conversion. Barrels for the M27 were supplied by Tikkakoski, commonly seen as Tikka, and by VKT, the state rifle factory. Tikkakoski marked its work with a T within a triangle until 1939, after which a circle was added around the triangle, so a barrel dated 1934 falls in the period of the plain triangle mark. The stocks used to build these rifles were themselves repaired and shortened stocks recycled from old M/91 rifles, so arsenal repair work is part of the type’s history rather than a later intervention.
