This Finnish M91 is built on an Izhevsk-manufactured receiver dated 1897 and carries a Tikka barrel dated 1940 with a D stamp, the Tikka mark in the triangle-inside-a-circle form. It is chambered in 7.62x54R. The rifle is SA stamped and Finnish matching. It retains almost all of its blued finish, the stock is in solid condition with no cracks, and the bore is bright with sharp rifling. The rifle is mechanically excellent and is a complete example, with all small parts and screws present. It includes original Finnish green leather sling loops.
The receiver on this rifle is dated 1897. Under the federal definition at 18 U.S.C. 921(a)(16), a firearm manufactured in or before 1898 is an antique firearm and falls outside the Gun Control Act definition of a firearm, and this rifle is offered on that basis: no FFL transfer is required and it can ship directly to the buyer’s door. Antique status under federal law does not override state or local law. Some states and municipalities regulate pre-1899 arms as firearms regardless of the federal exemption, so buyers are responsible for confirming that a direct shipment is lawful at their delivery address before ordering.
Finland kept Mosin Nagant rifles inherited from Imperial Russian stocks in service as the M91, refurbishing them and fitting Finnish-made replacement barrels as originals wore out. Reusing Russian receivers was standard practice, so the 1897 Izhevsk date records the original Russian manufacture, and a Finnish barrel dated 1940 reflects arsenal work in Finnish service rather than a later alteration. Tikkakoski, commonly seen as Tikka, was one of the Finnish barrel makers of the period; its factory mark was a T within a triangle until 1939, after which a circle was added around the triangle, so the circled form on this barrel is consistent with its 1940 date. The boxed SA stamp is the Finnish Army property mark, standing for Suomen Armeija, and identifies the rifle as Army rather than Civil Guard property. The D stamp on the barrel denotes a chamber throat dimensioned for the Finnish D166 ball cartridge of .310 inch diameter.
