Lot Notes

Finnish M39 Mosin-Nagant rifle chambered in 7.62×54R — a scarce, unmarked “sneak” variant — featuring a late-production barrel dated 1968 with no maker’s mark(Sneak), built on an 1898 Izhevsk-manufactured receiver. The rifle is all matching on all serialized parts. It has a mirror bore with sharp rifling and is in excellent condition overall. Because the receiver was manufactured in 1898 — before 1899 cut off— this rifle qualifies as an antique and is not classified as a firearm under the Gun Control Act, allowing it to ship directly to the buyer with no FFL transfer required.

The M39 is regarded as the finest of the Finnish Mosin-Nagant developments, but large-scale production ended in 1945. This example belongs to the rare late run of M39s assembled after the war from stockpiled actions, Finnish stocks, and replacement barrels. Rifles assembled by the Finnish arms depot (ASEVARIKKO) rather than the SAKO or VKT factories carry no barrel maker’s mark and are known among collectors as “sneak” M39s — among the rarest of the type(~5000 post war dated in total). Combining that unmarked late-1968 “sneak” barrel with a legally antique 1898 receiver, this Finn-matching, mirror-bored rifle is an unusual and highly collectible piece, with the added convenience of direct-to-door antique shipping.
