This M1 Carbine has a Standard Products receiver and is chambered in .30 Carbine. It carries serial 20861xx. The barrel is an Underwood dated 10-43, and the bore is bright with sharp rifling. The stock carries GHD, WRH and Springfield logo cartouches and a .U. marking, and it is stamped with the receiver serial. The carbine is reported to be an ex-Bavarian police gun, though that has not been definitively established. The trigger housing shows a plum hue. It comes with one U marked 15-round magazine.
Standard Products of Port Clinton, Ohio was one of the wartime M1 Carbine contractors. It was assigned a single serial block, 1,982,500 to 2,352,519, and built approximately 247,160 carbines between about April 1943 and May 1944, roughly four percent of all M1 Carbines made. A collector reference dates a Standard Products carbine numbered 2,078,643 to about August or September 1943, close to this carbine’s number. After the war, M1 Carbines also served with the police in Bavaria, and a documented example shows the agency name removed from the receiver, a replacement barrel made by ERMA of Dachau for the Bavarian police, and the receiver serial stamped inside the stock.
