Mauser C96 “Broomhandle” pistol chambered in 7.63 Mauser, serial number 229939, with 1911-1915 manufacture noted. This pistol is completely matching, including the grips, and still retains its original lanyard ring. It retains most of its original blue finish, with wear on the high spots from being carried in the holster stock.
The safety, trigger, rear sight slider, and bolt stop still retain most of their fire bluing. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, and the internal mechanism shows very little wear, suggesting a very low round count. The included stock is original but not matching to the pistol. A strong C96 example with matching pistol components, attractive remaining finish, and desirable original features.
History: The Mauser C96 is one of the most recognizable military surplus pistols of the early twentieth century. Introduced by Waffenfabrik Mauser in 1896, it was among the first commercially successful semi-automatic pistols, defined by its forward box magazine, broomhandle grip, and detachable wooden shoulder stock that doubles as a carrying holster. Chambered in the high-velocity 7.63 Mauser cartridge, it offered range and firepower far beyond the revolvers of its day, and guns of this 1911-1915 vintage saw hard service through the First World War and remained in fighting hands well into the Second World War and later conflicts. Complete, matching C96 pistols that retain their original finish and shoulder stock are increasingly difficult to find and rank among the most desirable collectible Mausers.
For the collector, this C96 brings together a fully matching pistol, an intact original lanyard ring, attractive remaining fire blue, and an included original shoulder stock in one historically significant package. It is well suited to display, period reference, or a serious German military surplus arms collection, and is offered as a C&R-eligible piece to ship to your FFL.
